Fight Choreographer, Fight Teacher, Director of Research - The International Order of the Sword & the Pen.

Brad Waller has been an actor, fight choreographer, and stage combat teacher in the Washington DC area for over 28 years. Brad has choreographed over 200 professional shows at The Shakespeare Theater Company, The Folger Shakespeare Library, Arena Stage, The Kennedy Center, The National Opera at the Kennedy Center, The Washington Ballet, The Washington Shakespeare Company, Olney Theater, Wolley Mammoth Theater Company, Source Theater, Round House Theater, and others. Brad is a historian of Medieval and Elizabethan fighting systems. He has been a Reader at the Folger Shakespeare Library since 1988; is a frequent lecturer and was guest curator of the 1995 Folger Shakespeare Library exhibit "The Sword and the Pen." Brad is a founding member of The International Order of the Sword & the Pen, and now serves as the Director of Research and Development. He has lectured on Swordplay for The Folger Shakespeare Library, The Smithsonian Institution and Gallaudet University - School for the Deaf. His Awards include: The Henry Marshall Memorial Award for Distinguished Service - Fight Directors Canada 2007 "in recognition of his international contributions to the Art of Stage Combat," the Brad Waller Scholarship - the International Sword-fighting & Martial Arts Convention 2007 "An Award in his name for his contributions to the international community of Historical Martial Artists," The Maestro's Dagger 1993 from Henry Marshall - The Society of British Fight Directors "for his contributions to the Paddy Crean Workshop," The Maestro's Buckle 1992 from Paddy Crean - "for his contributions to the art of stage combat," Helen Hayes Awards Nomination 1996 from the Washington Theater Awards Society "honoring excellence in the Washington DC professional theater in the category of Outstanding Choreography in a resident Play or Musical." Brad awarded his first Brad Waller Award at the Paddy Crean International Workshop this year at the Banff Centre in Banff Canada. Brad received the Paddy Crean Award In Banff 2016, from the International Order of the Sword and the Pen, for "...character and outstanding contribution to the art,"   Brad received a Founder Award in 2016 from the International Order of the Sword and the Pen.  Brad is going in his 17th year in teaching swordplay and stage combat for the Masters program at the Academy for Classical Acting at The Shakespeare Theatre Company and George Washington University.
