Stephen Gray retired in 2014 after 15 years as Director of Theatre at Elgin Community College, moved to Valparaiso, IN, where he and his wife base their higher ed consulting firm, SLC Higher Ed. Gray previously taught dramatic literature, voice, movement, combat, acting, etc. at Temple, NYU/Circle in the Square, Webster, Lindenwood, Cal Arts, Ohio State, DePaul's Theatre School, and the University of Illinois, Chicago. He was fight director or movement coach with Apple Tree, Bailiwick, Body Politic, Live Bait, Impulse, Chicago Theatre Company, and Drury Lane Oakbrook while in Chicago and American Conservatory Theatre, South Coast Repertory, Repertory Theatre of St. Louis, as well as San Francisco, Virginia, and New York City Opera companies nationally. A Certified Teacher with the SAFD since 1983 as well as black belt in aikido and instructor of Yang style tai chi, Gray holds a Ph.D. in theatre history and literature from the Ohio State University. So far, he is keeping busy in "retirement" teaching workshops in service excellence at colleges and universities across the US and Canada.
