Stefan Sittig
Stefan has a multi-disciplined theater background as a Helen Hayes Award nominated director, choreographer, fight director, movement and intimacy coordinator and educator. He has worked on 120+ productions, including Off-Broadway, Off-Off-Broadway, internationally in Canada, Brazil and Uruguay, in the DC area at The Kennedy Center, Studio Theatre, MetroStage (where he is an Artistic Associate), The Atlas Performing Arts Center, Washington Savoyards, NextStop Theatre Company, Creative Cauldron, Open Circle Theatre, 1st Stage, Adventure Theatre, Workhouse Arts Center, The American Century Theater and for various regional, college/university, and community theaters.
He has trained with the SAFD for over 30 years in Rapier & Dagger, Two-Handed Sword (formerly Broadsword), Single Sword, Staff (formerly Quarterstaff), Sword & Shield, Knife and Unarmed Combat. He has assisted and TA'd for Fight Master David Leong, and has studied under Fight Directors Colleen Kelly, Michael J. Johnson, and Casey Kaleba. Stefan is a Helen Hayes Award nominee and a WATCH Award winner, and five-time nominee, for Outstanding Fight Direction and a proud member of ATHE, ATME and the Latinx Theatre Commons. He holds an MFA from Virginia Commonwealth University and a BA from the University of Virginia.
Half-Uruguayan and raised in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Stefan is a native Spanish and Portuguese speaker and fluent in French. His love of theatre and movement in all its forms, combined with his experiences growing up in Latin America, have often guided his artistic work.
